Puneet Arora: Mr. Billwaria, The Vande Bharat train launch has generated significant excitement in J&K. How do you see this development shaping the region’s tourism landscape? How do you think this will impact tourism and business in Jammu?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: Thank you for having me. The launch of the Vande Bharat train is a game-changer for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly for the tourism sector. With the train covering the distance between Amritsar and Katra in approximately 5 hours and 35 minutes, it will attract more pilgrims and tourists to the region, boosting local businesses and the economy .<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief, Early Post Newspaper: That’s a great point. The Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar, which was launched recently, has already shown promising results with over 4,500 travelers reaching Kashmir in the first four days. Do you think this new train service will further enhance the tourism experience in Kashmir?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: Absolutely. The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train has been a huge success, reducing travel time to just under three hours and providing all-weather connectivity. This will not only benefit tourists but also facilitate easier access for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine and other sacred sites in Kashmir. The train’s impact on the local economy will be significant, and we expect a substantial increase in tourist footfall .<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief, Early Post Newspaper: How do you envision the Vande Bharat train services changing the landscape of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: The Vande Bharat trains will revolutionize tourism in Jammu and Kashmir by providing fast, reliable, and comfortable transportation. This will make the region more accessible to a wider audience, including budget-conscious travelers who were previously deterred by high airfares. We anticipate a significant boost in tourist arrivals, which will have a positive impact on local businesses, hotels, and the overall economy.<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief, Early Post Newspaper: What message do you think Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to launch these Vande Bharat trains sends to the people of Jammu and Kashmir?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: The Prime Minister’s efforts to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir demonstrate his commitment to the region’s development. The launch of the Vande Bharat trains is a testament to his vision for a more connected and prosperous India. We appreciate his efforts in prioritizing the needs of our region and working towards its growth and development.<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief, Early Post Newspaper: What has been done by your party to address tourism, industry, trade and business, hotels and lodging and Transporters issues in Jammu?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: To address trade and business in Jammu, several initiatives have been taken.The region has seen a surge in industrial growth, with \u20b912,000 crore in actual investment and another \u20b91.10 lakh crore in MoUs under implementation. Forty-six new industrial estates are being developed.<\/p>\n

Tourism has revived, with 2.11 crore tourists in 2023 and 2.36 crore in 2024. This sector contributes around 7% to the GSDP, creating jobs and boosting local income. Approximately \u20b959,000 crore worth of 53 major projects have been implemented, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities. Awareness camps and workshops are being organized to promote MSME schemes under the RAMP Programme, empowering small businesses. Some hotels in Udhampur have achieved Swachhata Green Leaf ratings, indicating a focus on cleanliness and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief, Early Post Newspaper: How do you rate CM Omar Abdullah led NC govt in J&KUT?<\/p>\n

Baldev Singh Billwaria: See, the BJP has indeed been vocal about its criticism of the National Conference (NC) government in Jammu and Kashmir, led by Omar Abdullah. NC government has failed to fulfill its electoral promises, such as providing free electricity, addressing power cuts, and water crises in Kashmir.<\/p>\n

He criticized the NC for lacking a clear roadmap for the J&K’s development and governance, questioning their ability to live up to their commitments. He expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of essential services like electricity and water. He slammed the NC government for failing to create a robust health infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, despite promises to improve healthcare services.<\/p>\n

He accused the NC government of making U-turns on their promises, such as providing 200 units of free electricity, which they now claim will only be possible after 100% metering is completed. The party believes that the NC government has failed on every front, existing only on paper and not delivering on the ground, stating that the government has “failed to keep their guarantees” mentioned in their manifesto.<\/p>\n
