The sacred Bahuda Yatra<\/strong>, the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra<\/strong> from Shree Gundicha Temple<\/strong> to the Shree Jagannath Temple<\/strong>, began today with grand rituals and a sea of devotees lining the streets of Puri.<\/p>\n

The day\u2019s events commenced with the \u2018Pahandi\u2019 ritual<\/strong>, where the deities were ceremonially carried out of the Gundicha Temple and placed on their respective chariots parked at Saradhabali<\/strong>. Although originally scheduled for 12 noon<\/strong>, the ritual began ahead of time at 10:30 AM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As per tradition, the procession began with Chakraraj Sudarshan<\/strong>, the divine wheel of Lord Vishnu, who was placed on Devi Subhadra\u2019s chariot, Darpadalan<\/strong>. This was followed by Lord Balabhadra<\/strong> on Taladhwaj<\/strong>, Devi Subhadra<\/strong> in a unique \u2018Sunya Pahandi\u2019<\/strong> procession (where she gazes at the sky), and finally, Lord Jagannath<\/strong> took his place on Nandighosh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before the Pahandi began, several sacred rituals like Mangala Arati<\/strong> and Mailam<\/strong> were performed inside the sanctum sanctorum.<\/p>\n

Once the deities are seated on the chariots, the traditional \u2018Chhera Pahanra\u2019<\/strong> (ceremonial sweeping of the chariot platforms) will be performed by Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb<\/strong>, scheduled between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM<\/strong>, followed by chariot pulling at 4 PM<\/strong>. However, officials noted that timings may shift slightly.<\/p>\n

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi<\/strong> and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik<\/strong> extended heartfelt wishes on the auspicious occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreetings to all on Bahuda Yatra. May Lord Jagannath bless everyone with peace, happiness, and prosperity,\u201d CM Majhi posted on X.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The return procession covers 2.6 km<\/strong> from Shree Gundicha Temple to the 12th-century Jagannath Temple<\/strong>, the main seat of Lord Jagannath.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Bahuda Yatra is being held under unprecedented security arrangements<\/strong>, especially after the tragic June 29 stampede<\/strong> near Gundicha Temple that claimed three lives<\/strong> and injured nearly 50<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
