In an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, Delhi Police has apprehended 92 Bangladeshi nationals<\/strong> during a special drive<\/strong> in the Southwest district<\/strong>, an official said on Tuesday. With this, the total number of Bangladeshi nationals detained since December 26, 2024, has reached 142<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to police, a 10-day-long special operation<\/strong> was recently launched to identify and detain foreign nationals residing in India without valid documentation.<\/p>\n

\u201cActing on intelligence inputs and with assistance from local informers, our teams conducted door-to-door verifications in several high-risk areas,\u201d said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary in an official statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Areas Covered and Findings<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As part of the drive, 88 Bangladeshi nationals<\/strong> were apprehended from various localities including:<\/p>\n

    Palam Village<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Delhi Cantonment<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Sagarpur<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u201cDuring interrogation, none of the detainees could produce valid documents to justify their stay in India,\u201d the DCP added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Many were found in possession of Bangladeshi identity documents, and after verification, they were confirmed to have entered the country illegally.<\/p>\n

    Illegal Entry and Occupations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    According to police, several detainees admitted to having crossed the India-Bangladesh border<\/strong> using illegal methods \u2014 some waded through rivers<\/strong>, while others infiltrated through gaps in fencing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Most of them had been residing in Delhi for several years<\/strong>, working primarily as daily wage laborers<\/strong> or domestic workers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Separate Operation: Family Caught After 12 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In a separate operation<\/strong>, police detained a Bangladeshi family of four<\/strong> from the Delhi Cantonment area<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

      Nasima Begum (40)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Son: Mohd Naim Khan (18)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Daughter: Asha Moni (13)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The family had reportedly been living illegally in the area for the past 12 years<\/strong>. During questioning, they confessed to being residents of Farooq Bazar Ajwatari, Phulbari Kurigram in Bangladesh<\/strong> and admitted to entering India through unauthorized means.<\/p>\n

      None of them could present Indian citizenship documents, and procedures for their deportation are now underway<\/strong> via the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Crackdown to Continue<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      DCP Choudhary confirmed that the operation is part of a broader effort to tackle illegal immigration in the district. The police are expected to continue surveillance and verification activities in other sensitive zones in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
