New Delhi<\/strong> \u2013 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress, seizing upon comments made by senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P. Chidambaram<\/strong> about the fragile state of the opposition INDIA alliance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch of the book “Contesting Democratic Deficit”<\/em> authored by Salman Khurshid<\/strong> and Mritunjay Singh Yadav<\/strong>, Chidambaram expressed doubt over the cohesion and future of the INDIA bloc<\/strong>, a coalition of opposition parties formed to counter the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe future [of the INDIA bloc] is not so bright,\u201d Chidambaram said. \u201cIt shows at the seams that it is frayed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He added that while some still believe the alliance is intact, he remains uncertain<\/strong> and hopes \u201cit can still be put together\u201d with time. He noted that only Salman Khurshid, part of the bloc\u2019s negotiating team, could provide clarity on the matter.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the remarks, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari<\/strong> took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), asserting that even close aides of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi<\/strong> now recognize the party’s diminishing relevance.<\/p>\n

The BJP has used the opportunity to question the stability and unity of the INDIA alliance<\/strong>, which was formed in 2023 with the aim of mounting a united challenge to the ruling BJP in the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n

Chidambaram Calls BJP a \u2018Formidable Machinery\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In his address, Chidambaram acknowledged the strength of the BJP\u2019s political apparatus<\/strong>, cautioning that the opposition must fight the party on \u201call fronts\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

His comments come amid growing speculation about disagreements and lack of coordination<\/strong> within the INDIA bloc following the general elections, in which the BJP retained a dominant position.<\/p>\n

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)<\/strong> brought together key opposition players including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, AAP, DMK, RJD, and others. However, internal rifts<\/strong>, policy disagreements<\/strong>, and regional ambitions<\/strong> have repeatedly challenged the coalition\u2019s coherence.<\/p>\n
