The Punjab government<\/strong> will roll out a sophisticated anti-drone system<\/strong> by September or October<\/strong> this year to curb the increasing instances of narcotics and weapons being smuggled from Pakistan using unmanned aerial vehicles<\/strong>, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav<\/strong> on Monday.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference, the DGP said testing of the system has already been completed along the Indo-Pak border<\/strong>, and coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF)<\/strong> is underway for deployment on the second line of defence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPunjab will install the anti-drone system by October. Our tests have been successful, and we are in close touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs,\u201d<\/em> Yadav said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Massive Recruitment and Legal Reforms on the Horizon<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a significant augmentation of border security, Yadav revealed that the state will soon recruit 5,500 home guards<\/strong> to strengthen its border defence mechanism.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Punjab government is also reviewing a proposal to set up 30 exclusive NDPS courts<\/strong> to fast-track trials under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act<\/strong>, with an annual budget allocation of \u20b922.8 crore<\/strong> under consideration.<\/p>\n

Crackdown on Drug Smuggling: Thousands Arrested, Massive Seizures<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since March 1, Punjab Police has registered 4,659 FIRs<\/strong> under the NDPS Act and arrested 7,414 drug traffickers<\/strong>, including 1,877 high-profile offenders<\/strong>, the DGP informed.<\/p>\n

    100 quintals poppy husk<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    153 kg opium<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    95 kg ganja<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    21.77 lakh tablets, capsules, pills<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    \u20b98.03 crore in cash<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Police have conducted 908 targeted operations<\/strong> at 755 drug hotspots<\/strong>, arresting 1,774 traffickers<\/strong> during cordon-and-search operations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Pakistan Waging Proxy War, Says Top Cop<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Slamming Pakistan\u2019s role, DGP Yadav said,<\/p>\n

    \u201cPakistan is pursuing a proxy war to bleed India by a thousand cuts. We\u2019ve busted their networks and foiled their designs.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    He added that 235 Pakistani nationals have entered Punjab recently, and joint monitoring with Jammu and Kashmir Police<\/strong> has been intensified, particularly in Pathankot<\/strong>, which reported suspicious activity.<\/p>\n

    Safety of Kashmiri Students Ensured Post Pahalgam Attack<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In light of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack<\/strong>, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, Punjab Police has reached out to Kashmiri students<\/strong> in the state, assuring full security. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs)<\/strong> and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs)<\/strong> have met with students across colleges, and travel is being facilitated for those wishing to return home.<\/p>\n

    Legal Wins and Economic Crackdown on Smugglers<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Punjab has achieved an 89% conviction rate<\/strong> in NDPS cases since March 1, one of the highest in the country. Out of 836 cases decided<\/strong>, 744 ended in convictions<\/strong>, including 144 kingpins<\/strong> sentenced to 10+ years\u2019 rigorous imprisonment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    To cripple drug networks economically, the police have:<\/p>\n

      Frozen assets worth \u20b932.95 crore<\/strong> (under Section 68F of NDPS Act)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Demolished 72 illegally constructed properties<\/strong> of drug traffickers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Formulated a 3-tier plan<\/strong> to dismantle hawala routes<\/strong>, seize assets<\/strong>, and demolish illegal constructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Yadav also cited the Transfer of Prisoners Act<\/strong>, recently notified by the Punjab government, to consider relocating high-risk prisoners outside the state during trials.<\/p>\n

      \n

      Public Help and Police Action: A Unified Fight<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      The Safe Punjab Anti-Drugs Helpline \u2014 9779100200<\/strong> \u2014 has led to 503 FIRs<\/strong> and 659 arrests<\/strong> based on public tips.<\/p>\n

      \u201cWe urge citizens to come forward and report anonymously. Every lead is monitored, and the Chief Minister personally reviews progress,\u201d<\/em> the DGP said.<\/strong><\/p>\n
