Ace pistol shooter Rahi Sarnobat<\/strong> scripted an inspiring comeback at the National Games<\/strong> in Dehradun<\/strong>, clinching gold in the Women\u2019s 25m air pistol<\/strong> event. The 34-year-old<\/strong>, a two-time Olympian, made her return to competitive shooting after a serious health crisis<\/strong>, showcasing immense resilience and determination.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the House of Glory podcast<\/strong>, an initiative by the Gagan Narang Sports Foundation<\/strong>, Rahi opened up about her battle with neuropathic pain syndrome<\/strong>, a condition that derailed her life and sporting career in 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Her ordeal began while preparing for the national camp for the World Championships<\/strong>, when she started experiencing nerve pain and hot flashes<\/strong>. Despite undergoing multiple tests\u2014including ECGs and routine diagnostics\u2014no cause was identified initially. \u201cI couldn\u2019t lie down. I had to sit and sleep for months. Finally, my medical team advised me to see a neurologist,\u201d Rahi shared.<\/p>\n

After extensive testing, she was diagnosed with neuropathic pain<\/strong>, a condition without a fixed pattern or treatment. \u201cI was sleeping for 17\u201320 hours a day, staring at the ceiling, just existing. I wasn\u2019t even aiming for a comeback, I just wanted to live a normal life,\u201d she recalled emotionally.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t her first major hurdle. Back in 2014<\/strong>, a freak hairline fracture in her shooting arm<\/strong> sidelined her for seven months, but she bounced back to win Asian Games gold in 2018<\/strong> and competed in the Tokyo Olympics<\/strong> in 2021.<\/p>\n

However, Rahi noted that her latest comeback was far more complex. \u201cInjury during the Rio cycle had a set routine and known treatment. But this time, I was in a dark, uncertain space. I didn\u2019t even know if I\u2019d return to life, let alone sport,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Recovery began with small steps. Her first task was simply to sit and watch a TV episode for 20 minutes\u2014a challenge due to severe fatigue. Her physiotherapy sessions spanned hours daily<\/strong>, slowly rebuilding her strength.<\/p>\n

Rahi\u2019s journey, though painful, has transformed her outlook. \u201cNow, I shoot for myself and the team that stood by me. I\u2019m not trying to prove anything to the world. I\u2019m stronger, more courageous, and I know this dream lives in me for a reason,\u201d she reflected.<\/p>\n
