The announcement was made on Monday by the party\u2019s central observer <strong data-start=\"271\" data-end=\"288\">Prahlad Joshi<\/strong> during the BJP\u2019s state council meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"332\" data-end=\"685\">Chandrasekhar was the <strong data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"370\">sole nominee<\/strong> for the top post and had submitted two sets of nomination papers at the BJP headquarters on Sunday. Prominent party leaders, including outgoing president <strong data-start=\"525\" data-end=\"540\">K Surendran<\/strong> and state in-charge <strong data-start=\"561\" data-end=\"582\">Prakash Javadekar<\/strong>, were present at the event. Surendran formally handed over the party flag to Chandrasekhar on stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"1098\">In his address, Surendran highlighted the <strong data-start=\"729\" data-end=\"753\">unprecedented growth<\/strong> of the BJP in Kerala over the past <strong data-start=\"789\" data-end=\"801\">10 years<\/strong>. He emphasized that Chandrasekhar\u2019s <strong data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"866\">experience and expertise<\/strong> across various sectors would further accelerate the party\u2019s expansion in the state. Dismissing criticism that Chandrasekhar is not a conventional politician, Surendran expressed confidence in his ability to excel in the new role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1512\">At <strong data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1119\">60 years old<\/strong>, Chandrasekhar brings <strong data-start=\"1142\" data-end=\"1181\">two decades of political experience<\/strong> to the position. He has served as <strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1243\">Union Minister of State<\/strong> for <strong data-start=\"1248\" data-end=\"1322\">Electronics &amp; IT, Skill Development &amp; Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti<\/strong>. Additionally, he has been a <strong data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1381\">three-term Rajya Sabha MP<\/strong> from Karnataka and a <strong data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1432\">BJP national spokesperson<\/strong>. Currently, he also serves as the <strong data-start=\"1467\" data-end=\"1484\">vice-chairman<\/strong> of the NDA\u2019s Kerala unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1736\">A familiar figure in Kerala politics, Chandrasekhar contested the <strong data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1608\">2024 Lok Sabha elections<\/strong> from <strong data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1636\">Thiruvananthapuram<\/strong> as the NDA candidate but narrowly lost to <strong data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1697\">Shashi Tharoor<\/strong> of the Congress by <strong data-start=\"1717\" data-end=\"1733\">16,077 votes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1913\">Born in <strong data-start=\"1746\" data-end=\"1768\">Ahmedabad, Gujarat<\/strong>, to Keralite parents, Chandrasekhar has deep family roots in <strong data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1842\">Thrissur<\/strong>.
