Colombo, Sri Lanka — In a dramatic finale, India secured a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, clinching the third match in a nerve-wracking Super Over. Sri Lanka’s Late Collapse

Chasing a modest target of 138 on a challenging pitch, Sri Lanka appeared in control at 110 for 1 in 15.1 overs. However, their innings took a dramatic turn as they lost seven wickets for just 27 runs in a span of 4.5 overs, ending their regulation innings at 137 for 8. This collapse marked the third time in four days that Sri Lanka had faltered under pressure.

Super Over Showdown

In the Super Over, India’s bowlers stepped up under immense pressure. Washington Sundar delivered a spectacular performance by taking both wickets and conceding only two runs. Suryakumar Yadav then sealed the win with a first-ball sweep shot, capping off a thrilling contest.

Key Performers and Turning Points

Suryakumar Yadav, leading the team for the first time in a series, showcased his leadership and composure. His crucial two-wicket haul in the final over of Sri Lanka’s innings helped set the stage for India’s eventual victory. Rinku Singh, contributing with the ball in the 19th over, claimed two important wickets, including that of Kusal Perera, who had been pivotal for Sri Lanka.

Earlier, the Lankan spinners exploited a pitch offering significant turn and variable bounce. Despite their efforts, India managed to post 137 for 9, thanks to a resilient partnership between Shubman Gill (39 off 37 balls) and Riyan Parag (26 off 18 balls). This stand was crucial as India had been struggling at 48 for 5.

Sri Lankan Struggles and Indian Batting Highlights

Sri Lanka’s spinners, particularly Maheesh Theekshana (3/28), proved effective in containing the Indian batsmen. Despite a strong start from Kusal Mendis (43), Pathum Nissanka (26), and Perera (46), the Lankan innings fell apart in the crucial final overs.

India’s batting saw Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag trying to anchor the innings amidst a challenging pitch. Gill’s lofted boundary and Parag’s big hits provided the highlights of the Indian innings, though both fell while attempting aggressive shots.

The Road Ahead

This victory not only highlights India’s depth and adaptability in T20 cricket but also underscores the need for Sri Lanka to address their late-innings collapses. With Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy debut proving successful, the Indian team will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for future challenges.
