{"id":54047,"date":"2024-06-06T10:06:25","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T10:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/earlypostdaily.com\/?p=54047"},"modified":"2024-06-06T10:06:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T10:06:27","slug":"union-health-ministry-conducts-review-meeting-with-states-on-heatwave-preparedness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/earlypostdaily.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/06\/union-health-ministry-conducts-review-meeting-with-states-on-heatwave-preparedness\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Health Ministry Conducts Review Meeting with States on Heatwave Preparedness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>New Delhi, June 6:<\/strong> The Union Health Ministry, led by the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Atul Goel, conducted a virtual meeting with States and Union Territories to assess preparedness for heatwave conditions and fire and electrical safety measures in healthcare facilities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Indian Meteorological Department&#8217;s (IMD) long-range outlook forecast issued on May 27, June 2024 is expected to see above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of the country, except for the southern peninsular region, where normal to below-normal temperatures are likely. Above-normal heatwave days are anticipated for most areas of Northwest and Central India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Union Health Ministry has issued several directives to state health departments, including advisories, guidelines for strengthening health systems against Heat-Related Illnesses (HRI), public health advisories with \u201cDo\u2019s and Don\u2019ts,\u201d IEC poster templates, guidelines for emergency cooling for severe heat-related illnesses, and autopsy guidelines for heat-related deaths. These directives were disseminated to AIIMS and medical colleges nationwide. Additionally, joint communications from the Secretary (Health), MoHFW, and NDMA, as well as communications from the Directorate General of Health Services regarding health facility fire safety measures and checklists, have been sent to all states and UTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">States and UTs were urged to take proactive measures to prevent incidents caused by extreme heat, as per a letter sent on March 23, 2024. Top officials in all states and UTs are closely monitoring the situation. Various states have undertaken specific measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Madhya Pradesh:<\/strong> Conducted mock drills on fire safety in all government and private hospitals. The Urban Administration and Engineering departments coordinated fire safety mock drills, and a Code Red Protocol was issued.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Odisha:<\/strong> Established Heat Wave Control rooms across the state.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uttar Pradesh:<\/strong> Conducting the DASTAK (Door-to-door) campaign to raise awareness, with Fire Safety Officers identified in almost all health facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Haryana:<\/strong> Made dedicated financial allocations to ensure the availability of essential drugs and logistics in healthcare facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rajasthan:<\/strong> Equipped ambulances linked to 104 and 108 with cooling appliances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>West Bengal:<\/strong> Ensured fire safety certificates through fire departments and conducted mock drills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bihar:<\/strong> Coordinating with the State Disaster Management Authority to prevent fire incidents in healthcare facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Delhi:<\/strong> Issued directives and SOPs for firefighting systems in all government and private hospitals.
