Despite strong advocacy from JKPCC president Vikar Rasool Wani, the final decision rests with the Congress working committee. Despite being embroiled in a money laundering case, Singh is being considered for the Congress ticket. The BJP announced Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma as its candidates for the Udhampur and Jammu parliamentary seats, respectively, on March 3. The JKPCC chief supports Lal Singh for the Udhampur seat and Raman Bhalla for the Jammu seat. Singh, a former Congress member, was arrested by the ED last November. He had previously defeated BJP veteran Chaman Lal Gupta in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Singh later joined the BJP, served as a cabinet minister, and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Jammu and Udhampur but faced defeat.
