\u00a0Kupwara, Jul 26: <\/strong>Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating the victory of Indian Army in Kargil War 1999 was celebrated today at War Memorial at Kupwara by Vajr Division of Indian Army. 26 July marks the 24th anniversary of the victory of Indian Army on the icy heights of Kargil. GOC Vajr Division, Maj Gen Girish Kalia, VSM along with troops stationed at Zangli Garrison, paid homage to the brave soldiers of Indian Army who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the Kargil War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict erupted in May 1999 when Pakistani soldiers and militants infiltrated across the Line of Control (LoC). Their objective was to occupy strategic positions along the high-altitude mountain ranges, threatening Indian supply routes and endangering the stability of the region. The Indian Army, after detecting the infiltration, launched “Operation Vijay” to evict the intruders and reclaim the lost territories. The war was fought under extremely challenging conditions, with Indian soldiers facing steep terrain, harsh weather, and a well-entrenched enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 After almost three months of intense fighting, on July 26, 1999, the Indian Armed Forces succeeded in recapturing all the infiltrated territories. This historic triumph came at a heavy cost, with many Indian soldiers making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Kargil Vijay Diwas stands as a reminder of the indomitable spirit of the Indian Armed Forces and the nation’s unity in the face of adversity. The victory in the Kargil War showcased India’s commitment to maintaining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
