A comment made by Kashmir Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar on \nthe CRPF\u201ds role in counter-terrorism operations has stirred a \ncontroversy among the forces deployed in the valley, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They said IGP Kumar, during a meeting of joint forces at the district\n police lines in Baramulla on April 29 chaired by DGP Dilbag Singh, \nreportedly commented that the paramilitary force is a showpiece and the \nactual operations are conducted by the Army, its elite unit Rashtriya \nRifles (RR) with the help of intelligence generated by the state police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kumar, a 1997-batch Indian Police Service officer, is stated to have \nsaid that the work of CRPF in Kashmir operations has not been good and \nhe knows it better as he himself had served in the paramilitary force on\n deputation earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials said senior CRPF officers present in the meeting did not \ntake the comments kindly and they later confronted Kumar about his \n\u201cunpleasant\u201d utterances against their force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior state police officials said the issue has created controversy \nafter a section of security forces commanders said the comment was aimed\n to create a rift among sister forces working against militancy and \nterrorism in Kashmir Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the issue refused to die down and senior CRPF commanders sought \nhigh-level intervention, the Kashmir zone of the J-K Police issued a \ntweet on Friday specifically praising the role of the country\u201ds largest \nparamilitary force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c#DGP J&K Shri Dilbagh Singh complimented role of #BSF, #CRPF, \n@SSB, #ITBP & #CISF deployed on the various assignment in J&K. \nSpecially #CRPF has played a significant role both in maintaining \n#L&O (law and order) and #CI (counter insurgency) grids,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kumar has served in the CRPF as its Deputy IG (New Delhi range) and \nas the IG in anti-Naxal operations grid of Chhattisgarh and in the \noperations directorate at the headquarters in Delhi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
