Srinagar, May 6: With a view to meet the men in operations amid Covid-19 pandemic and listen
\nto the issues faced by them, J&K Bank Chairman & MD R K Chhibber today paid a visit to South
\nKashmir where he interacted with the Zonal Heads Kashmir South (I & II) Mohammad Shafi
\nSalroo and M A Wanchoo respectively along with Cluster Heads and Lead Bank Officers.
\nLauding the role played by the staff in dispensing uninterrupted banking services to the people
\namid ongoing covid-19 pandemic, the CMD complimented the efforts put in by the entire staff
\nin managing the branches, offices & ATMs very efficiently while managing continuity of
\nbusiness by facilitating the general people.
\nHe also appreciated the efforts put in by both the zones for maintaining cordial relations with
\nthe district administration to ensure smooth functioning.
\n\u201cI have come all the way to meet you and listen to your problems and issues rather than taking
\nany business review at this critical juncture, for, I am sure about your commitment and
\nseriousness towards your institutional duty\u201d, the CMD said adding, \u201cHowever, we need to
\nremain aware that our sustainability and health as a profitable institution necessitates that
\nsufficient income is generated from the business so as to take care of expenses without putting
\nany strain on the reserves of the bank\u201d.
\nUnder such circumstances, he urged the staff to rise up to the occasion and put in action the
\nbank\u2019s considered mantra of \u2018survival and revival should go hand in hand\u2019 for all our customers.
\n\u201cIn order to make that happen we have to meet the expectations of customers and keep
\nfacilitating them to the best of our abilities\u201d, he said.
\nThe fact that the banking was included in essential services list for the first time by the
\ngovernment, he asserted, highlights the importance of banking in the lives of people, adding,
\n\u201cSince J&K Bank is known for working in tough conditions like these while undertaking the
\nresponsibility efficiently; the efforts are being appreciated from every corner.\u201d
\nIn the given conditions, one of the measures to deal with the situation is to cut on costs, which
\nhe said, the bank has already initiated besides putting on hold the CSR spending. While
\nappreciating the fact that even though the business units\/offices were working with less-than-
\nrequired staff strength, the CMD said SOP is already in place.
\nEncouraging the staff to explore all available business opportunities including micro business
\ndespite the challenges and difficulties, the CMD recalled the age-old and time tested maxim i.e.
\n\u201cpenny and penny make many.\u201d In this regard, he said, \u201cSufficient powers have been delegated
\ndown the line, so officers should not shy away from utilizing those powers responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnsure that both the staff and our customers are protected from the ongoing epidemic\u201d, the
\nCMD reiterated, \u201cyou can undertake any genuine expenditure in this regard\u201d.
\nEarlier, the Zonal Heads, Cluster Heads and LBOs of both the zones thanked the CMD for his
\nvisit. They briefed the CMD in detail about the business activities in their respective zones since
\nthe outbreak of the pandemic. They also apprised the Chairman about the opportunities
\navailable and also suggested few measures to improve the business under the present
\ncircumstances.
\nOn the occasion, the CMD also granted approval to the request put up by the Zonal Heads, to
\ncommission the ATMs – that were ready for operations – for public service. Before leaving, the
\nCMD also heard the issues of few staff members, casual labourers and addressed those on the
