Udhampur , May 06 : Department of Environmental Sciences, Govt. Degree College Udhampur, organized a workshop on \u201cwaste recycling\u201d. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta and overall convener ship of Dr. Sunil Kumar Bhat, as a component of the continuum of the series of awareness programs under celebration of India\u2019s Presidency of G20 nations and taking forward the torch of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Programme was coordinated by Prof Asha Sohil, Assistant professor Department of Environmental Sciences. Students from different streams of the college actively participated in the event. Prof. Imtiaz Shahid, senior facilty of Zoology was the resource person on the occasion. In his message Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, the patron and Principal of the college congratulated the students and faculty members for organizing such events and encouraging the active participation of the students especially at the local level. He apprised the students regarding the mitigation of the waste by following 3R concept and make use of recycled and up- cycled products.
Earlier the programme began with the formal welcome note by Prof. Asha Sohil, Head
Department of Environmental Sciences. Post this the resource person Prof Imtiaz Shahid, spoke in detail about the theme of the event. He elucidated about the solid waste management; issues, crises and solutions. He talked about the importance of recycling techniques to be adopted at the regional level so as to cope up with the issues of mismanagement of solid waste. He shared among the students to make use of
recycled products so as to reduce pressure on resources and to make waste management recycling more efficient. On this occasion documentaries on waste recycling were also screened before the students. Prof Jawaid Sarver, Assistant Professor Co-convenor Eco-club encouraged the students to participate and become ambassadors of Clean, Green and Smart India. Prof Asma Javaid Faculty Department of Botany also shared her views regarding use of recycled products and raised the issue of littering which mostly produces non recyclable plastics generated by tourists at tourists places. The programme was attended by Dr Rabia, Dr Anita , Prof Anuradha and around hundred student members of eco-club.
