The case pertained to allegations of cheating and criminal conspiracy in a land acquisition matter. The bench, comprising of Justices Rohinton Nariman and B.R. Gavai, dismissed the case citing lack of evidence. The case was initially filed in 2011 after a complaint was lodged by farmers who alleged that they were cheated during the acquisition of land for the construction of the SAD-BJP government\u2019s flagship \u201cNew Chandigarh\u201d project. The complaint alleged that Sukhbir Singh Badal and others had conspired to cheat the farmers by paying them a lower compensation amount than the market value.
