NSS Unit-1 of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt. P.G. College for Women, Gandhinagar Jammu celebrated \u201cWorld Wetlands Day\u201d under the guidance of worthy Principal Prof. Minu Mahajan and supervision of NSS Programme officer Unit-1 Prof. Mala Bhasin on 2nd of February 2023.
To celebrate the day, a Poster Making Competition on the theme \u201cIt’s Time for Wetlands Restoration \u201d was organised. The aim for celebrating the day was to make aware the volunteers about the vital role of Wetlands for people and mother planet. A total of 25 volunteers made beautiful posters and showcased their creative talent. Seeya Saini and Mehak Saini clinched First and Second Positions respectively whereas the third position was shared by Shagun and Taiba Rizwana.
World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on 2nd of February. The theme for this year is -It’s time for Wetlands Restoration, which focuses on the urgent need to prioritize wetland restoration.
Prof. Minu Mahajan, Principal of the College applauded the volunteers for their participation and congratulated the winners. She emphasized the importance of wetland ecosystems in supporting variety of life forms besides an important source of fresh water and also advised the students to make action plans for the conservation and restoration of Wetlands. Prof. Mala Bhasin, NSS Programme Officer also appreciated the efforts of volunteers for making the event a success. She added that the Wetlands are disappearing three times faster than forests and we must increase our efforts to protect and restore wetlands for the benefit of people, nature and generations to come. The event was judged by Prof. Sania Hamid, Prof. Sugandha Mahajan and Prof. Swarn Singh.
