J&amp;K High Court Bar Association Srinagar today urged the \nauthorities to release all detenues and political prisoners lodged in \nand outside J&amp;K including its president, advocate Mian Qayoom, who \nis lodged in Central Jail Tihar, New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kashmirlife.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Mian-Abdul-Qayoom.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-223116\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bar president Mian Qayoom\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The executive members of the Bar after holding a meeting through \n\u2018teleconference\u2019 urged the authorities to release all the detenues and \npolitical prisoners lodged in and outside J&amp;K in light of the \ndirections issued by the Supreme Court recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SC in view of the spread of coronavirus across the country \nrecently asked the authorities concerned to constitute a high-powered \ncommittee which would consider the release of prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince the jails throughout India are mostly overcrowded, therefore, \nthe Supreme Court noticed the potential threat to the lives of inmates, \nparticularly those suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other \nlife-threatening diseases, who have been found more susceptible to \nbecome victims of COVID-19,\u201d the bar in a statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The members said the Bar President, Mian Abdul Qayoom, who is in his \nadvanced age surviving on a single kidney, suffering from multiple \nchronic ailments which include diabetes, hypertension, severe nerve \ndamage, 60 percent blockage in one of the arteries of heart, resulting \nin his frail immune system, \u201cis more prone to become a victim of the \ndeadly virus with minimal chances of his survival.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The members also stated that \u201cat a time when the whole world has \nunited to counter the deadly virus by maintaining social distance, it \nwould be very prudent and appropriate for the authorities to release the\n detenues\/undertrial political prisoners from jails, either permanently \nor on parole, in order to save them from contracting the deadly virus\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the bar members said the judgments reserved on some Habeas\n Corpus Petitions have not been announced till date, and requested the \nChief Justice of J&amp;K \u201cto make necessary arrangements for the \nannouncement of those
