In wake of the lockdown in the entire country to tackle coronavirus \npandemic, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked states and Union \nTerritories to keep a strict watch on rumour mongers, including those \nrelated to the shortage of food and other essential services and \ncommodities. The Home Ministry also asked them to ensure that essential \nservices are maintained for people during the 21-day lockdown period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the wake of the orders that have been issued under the Disaster \nManagement Act, 2005, there are possibilities of rumour mongering, \nincluding those relating to shortage of food and other essential \nservices and commodities,\u201d the MHA said in a letter to states and Union \nTerritories (UTs).
\n\u201cIn this context, it is imperative that all state governments and Union \nTerritory Administrations take necessary steps to suitably publicise \nthrough all available means that food, medical, and civil supplies, and \nother essential services will be maintained and there are adequate \nsupplies available in the country,\u201d it said.
\nIt further urged the states and UTs that provisions of the guidelines \nissued on the measures to be taken for containment of COVID-19 \nepidemic in the country may be \u201csuitably disseminated amongst the \npublic\u201d.
\n\u201cAll measures may be taken to allay apprehensions and maintain peace and tranquillity,\u201d it said.
\nOn Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown in \nthe entire country to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that \n\u201csocial distancing\u201d is the only option to deal with the disease, which \nspreads rapidly.
\nIn a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi said that it \nis vital to break the chain of the disease and experts have said that at\n least 21 days are needed for it.
