She congratulated Professor &amp; Head Department of Pediatrics Dr. Ghanshyam Saini, for his dedication and overwhelming efforts towards creation of a Super Speciality facility for the people of UT. She also congratulated Dr. Ashu Jamwal, Professor Pediatrics for taking charge of Head of Department of Neonatology. Further, she said that Department of Pediatrics was continuously providing the best health care facilities to the children and new borns and with the creation of a separate Super Speciality Department of Neonatology the team of Doctors will dedicatedly look after these areas and the New Born care and Neonatal Intensive Care will be strengthened.<br>Dr. Ghanshyam Saini, Professor &amp; Head Department of Pediatrics thanked the Administrative Department and Principal, GMC, Jammu for their unconditional support and commitment towards improvement and strengthening of Health Care Facilities and conveyed that GMC, Jammu has achieved another first in the UT of J&amp;K with the creation of Super Speciality Department of Neonatology. He mentioned that the Doctors going to manage this new Department are well experienced and qualified and their services will be best utilized in this Department.<br>Assuming the charge of Head of Super Speciality Department of Neonatology, Professor Dr. Ashu Jamwal expressed her gratitude to the administration for having faith on her and putting responsibility of heading this newly created Department. Dr. Ashu Jamwal is well experienced in the field of Neonatology and has been managing the Neonatology areas in the Department of Pediatrics since its beginning. Dr. Anuj Bhatti, Associate Professor and Dr. Anumodan Gupta are the other Faculty Members of the Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ashu Jamwal presented a PowerPoint presentation depicting the journey of establishment of Neonatology facilities in Government Medical College, Jammu.<br>She conveyed that<br>Initially One SCNU was set up in the Department as an 8 bedded facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Status as on 2012<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neonatal admission<br>10-20\/day<br>350-380\/month<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neonates admitted in Pediatric wards<br>120-150\/DAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neonates housed in NICU<br>35-50\/DAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neonates screened on OPD basis<br>30-40\/day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New born screened in postnatal wards<br>100-120\/day<br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newborns requiring routine postnatal care and resuscitation in labour room<br>40-60\/day<br>16000-17000\/year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was thus , more than obvious, that there was an urgent need for upgradation of facilities for Neonatal Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2012<br>NICU-A with 10 radiant warmers AND 5 phototherapies under the expert guidance of Dr. Vikas Mahajan who had done his Fellowship in Neonatology from Canada (01-07-2012)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2013<br>Dr Anuj Bhatti, DM Neonatology joined the Deptt. (Oct. 2013)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2014<br>1st ventilator arrived (03-12-2014)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2017<br>NICU C commissioned with 5 ventilators (April, 2017)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2020<br>Dr. Anumodan Gupta, Neonatologist, joined the Deptt. (28-07-2020)<br>NICU A upgraded as intensive area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2022<br>MCH Gandhinagar developed as a Newborn level III facility<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PRESENT STATUS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17 ventilators in NICU C and 5 in MCH Gandhinagar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SMGS &#8211; 3 NICUs &amp; 3 stepdown wards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NICU C &#8211; 25 bedded level III care with 17 ventilators<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NICU B &#8211; 28 bedded, housing as many as 40-50 babies esp LBW babies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ward 14 &amp; 15 40 bedded<br>Ward 5 20 bedded<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perinatology adjoining WARD 2: Checkup of the newborns and immunisation even on Sundays<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New born stabilisation unit in LR<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme was attended by all the Faculty members\/Staff of Department of Pediatrics including Professor: Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Dr. Sunil Dutt, Dr. Mohd. Razaq and others. Also HoD\u2019s of various Departments i.e. Dr. Subhash Bhardwaj HoD Pathology, Dr. Parmod Kalsotra HoD ENT, Dr. Amita Gupta HoD Gynae &amp; Obst., Dr. Rajeev Gupta HoD PSM, Dr. Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Dy.
