BILASPUR: President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday emphasised the need to\n inculcate moral values in education as the key objective for students \nwas not just to acquire a degree but become a good human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was addressing the 8th convocation ceremony of Guru Ghasidas Central University in Chhattisgarh\u2019s Bilaspur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am happy to see a good number of daughters among the medal \nwinners\u2026.Seeing the achievements of daughters, we are confident if given\n the opportunity, they can excel in any field. This is the picture of a \ngolden India everybody is seeing through daughters today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe main objective of education is not only to get a degree but also\n to become a good human being. I used to say, one who is a good human \nand if he is a doctor, then he will be a good doctor, if he is a teacher\n then he will be a good teacher and if a student then he will be a good \nstudent\u2026,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A good human being can be a good husband and father, and a good woman\n will play the role of a good wife, mother and daughter, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learning without moral values is not beneficial for society and \nteachers should inculcate honesty, discipline, tolerance and respect for\n the law among students so that they become true citizens, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cToday, India is being recognised as a modern and entrepreneurial \nnation, and for this all, especially our hard-working youth, deserve \npraise. Because of our hard- working youth, we have set up the largest \nstartup ecosystem and achieved success in areas from technology to space\n science,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chhattisgarh has a large population of tribals, the president said, \nand praised Guru Ghasidas Central University for spreading the light of \neducation among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have been told Guru Ghasidas Central University is encouraging \ninnovation in education. An \u2018endangered language school\u2019 has been setup \nin the university to preserve languages that are becoming extinct. \nPreserving a language is very important as it will ensure protection to \nour tradition and culture,\u201d Kovind said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring my earlier visit to Chhattisgarh, I interacted with students \nof Astha Vidya Mandir (in Bastar) established for children of families \naffected by Naxal-violence and listened to their experiences. I saw \ntheir strength of faith and resolution,\u201d he said, adding that education \nwould end terror and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel were also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
