The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Centre, Delhi government and\n police on pleas seeking removal of protesters from Shaheen Bagh as it \nrefused to pass orders on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hearing petitions seeking the removal of anti-CAA protesters from \nShaheen Bagh, the Supreme Court said protesters cannot block public road\n and create inconvenience for others. \u201cIf you want to protest, there can\n be some area where you protest. You cannot block a public road. Can you\n block a public area? There must be defined areas of protest,\u201d the \nSupreme Court noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saying that it will not pass any direction on Shaheen Bagh protest \nwithout hearing the other side, the Supreme Court listed the matter for \nhearing on February 17. \u201cIf it\u2019s lasted for 58 days, you can wait one \nmore week,\u201d the Supreme Court observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Supreme Court had earlier said it will hear the pleas seeking \nremoval of anti-CAA protestors from Shaheen Bagh after the Delhi \nAssembly elections as it did not want to \u201cinfluence\u201d the polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Advocate Amit Sahni, who has filed an appeal in the SC against the \nJanuary 14 order of the high court directing the police to deal with the\n situation keeping in mind law and order, had said due to the protests \nsince December 15 last year traffic flow on Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh \nstretch has been badly affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Sahni had approached the high court seeking directions to \nthe Delhi Police to ensure smooth traffic flow on the Kalindi \nKunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch which has been blocked since December 15 last \nyear due to protest at Shaheen Bagh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Restrictions have been imposed on the stretch as also the Okhla \nunderpass due to protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) \nand National Register of Citizens (NRC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plea sought laying down of comprehensive and exhaustive \nguidelines relating to outright restrictions for holding protests or \nagitations leading to obstruction of public place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said the law enforcement machinery was being \u201cheld hostage to the \nwhims and fancies of the protesters\u201d who have blocked vehicular and \npedestrian movement from the road connecting Delhi to Noida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
