Bhaderwah, Nov 16: In a heart-wrenching incident, a nine-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a speeding load carrier while crossing the road with his father at Khellani market on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway on Thursday morning, as reported by the police. The tragic incident occurred in Khellani market, approximately 9 km from Doda town, around 10:24 am.
According to SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom, Mohd Iqbal and his son Nasir (9) were attempting to cross the road at the busy Khellani market when the accident unfolded. The boy, while crossing the busy highway, was hit by a load carrier with registration number JK17A-4586. Nasir was promptly taken to GMC Doda in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries at 12:30 pm.
The SSP explained, “The boy was crossing the road on the busy highway while his father was running after him to stop him. However, a load carrier bearing registration number JK17A-4586 hit the boy.” A case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the driver at Khellani police post, and the driver has been arrested with the vehicle impounded.
This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of a bus mishap that claimed 39 lives and left 17 injured in the Trungal area of Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar highway just a day prior.
