RS Pura: Social and political Activist Narinder Sharma today started cleaning of main Nallah at Kotli Shah Doula Panchayat in RS Pura constituency with the contribution of locals. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma alleged that the desilting of the said nallah has not been taken up for years as a result of this the nallah is full with silt and garbage and has become a health hazard for the general public.Sharma also said that political leaders remains indulged in political rhetoric instead of actually working on the ground. These leaders he said were merely interested in photo sessions and did nothing for the cleanliness of Nallahs and solving other problems of the people. Sharma said that concerned authorities failed to ensure pre-monsoon nallah cleaning work. He claimed that the work is delayed every year and the first monsoon showers lead to flooding. The solid waste department should undertake pre-monsoon nallah cleaning work every year. In case of pre-monsoon or first monsoon showers, most residents living in low-lying areas have to suffer loss of property due to flooding. Sharma further said, “The nallah-cleaning work does not end even after monsoon sets in as the entire process begins late. The public representatives have to face the ire of people affected by flooding due to unclean nallahs. The civic administration should also study the water logging spots and find reasons for water logging. It is also necessary to clean the drains twice a year for which a budgetary provision needs to be made in budget estimate, added Sharma.”
