Kupwara Aug 29 : On the eve of National Sports Day and to promote the culture of sports among the women of Kupwara Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers inaugurated Kupwara Women Volleyball Championship at Hirri Kupwara on 29 Aug 23.
The National Sports Day in our country is celebrated on 29 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Singh. In this regard a volleyball Championship for the women of Kupwara is organised by Indian Army to highlight the importance of sports in human life.
The championship will benefit about 120 women players from 9 different teams of Kupwara. The aim of this Championship is to make youth especially women of Kupwara aware about national Sports Day and to minimise the gap between Army and Awaam.
The inaugural match was played between WCC Kupwara -A and BHSS Trehgam Hirri which was won by WCC Kupwara -A by 2-0. Dar Nusrat of WCC Kupwara – A was declared player of the match for here brilliant performance. She alone manged to score 14 points for her team.
Mr Gh Mohd, Principal Higher Secondary School Hirri Trehgam along with officers from Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers graced the occasion as chief guest. Besides them the match was enjoyed by over 200 locals and students. At last the chief guest applauded all the participants and awarded women of the certificate to Dar Nusrat.
Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers remains in the forefront of encouraging sporting events in Kupwara to enable the youth especially women to come out and participate in sporting activities.
