Jammu : The NSS Units and Department of Botany at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women Gandhinagar Jammu spearhead the famous”Meri Mitti Mera Desh” campaign by conducting a grand plantation drive(Vasudha Vandhan) and pledge ceremony on August 11, 2023.The “Meri Mitti Mera Desh” campaign signifies the collective commitment to preserve our environment and nurturing a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
The day commenced with a ceremonial tree plantation, symbolizing the growth of a shared vision for a cleaner and greener nation. NSS Programme Coordinator Prof Mala Bhasin, NSS POs Prof Sugandha Mahajan(Unit 1), Prof Anupama Sharma(Unit 2), NSS volunteers plant a variety of indigenous trees, enhancing the biodiversity of the campus and its surroundings that will untimately lead to creation of AMRIT VATIKA of 75 indigenous plants.
Following the plantation drive, a pledge ceremony took place, where students, faculty members, and attendees took Panch Pran pledge and showed their dedication to preserve the environment, reducing their ecological footprint, and promoting sustainable practices in their daily lives.
Prof Mala Bhasin, Head of the Department of Botany at GCW Gandhinagar, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “The ‘Meri Mitti Mera Desh’ campaign is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage actively in environmental conservation. We hope to make a lasting impact on our community’s awareness about the significance of environmental stewardship.”
Prof Minu Mahajan, Principal of College appreciated the efforts of NSS team and Dept of botany ans said that the event marks a significant step towards fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership towards the environment, and it is expected to be a source of inspiration for similar initiatives in the region.
The faculty of Dept of Botany including Dr Harjeet Kour Sodhi, Prof Sania Hamid, Dr. Renu Sharma, Prof Meenakshi Sharma, Prof Swarn Singh and other non teaching staff members were also present during the event.
