‘Women of wonders’ felicitates Balwant Thakur in Mauritius

Port Louis (Mauritius): Women of wonders an International organisation based in Mauritius felicitated Balwant Thakur- the Cultural Diplomat of India to Mauritius at a glittering function at La Cannelle. The felicitations were done by Yasheena Rag Mrs Mauritius Universe who is also the chairperson of Women of wonders. Balwant Thakur who is heading here world’s biggest Cultural Centre based in Mauritius in a short span of Seven months has created a buzz in the entire Mauritius through his highly innovative approach of showcasing Indian culture. People out here never had the occasion to witness a diverse range of Indian cultural events which he devised after joining as Director of Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix. There is a huge thrust for Indian culture, arts, crafts, performing arts and cuisine in Mauritius and Indian artistic activities command immense respect and appreciation of the entire Mauritian population. The women of wonders in appreciation to his most out standing contribution in popularising Indian culture in Mauritius felicitated Balwant Thakur. He has introduced Arts in Education in Mauritius which was never heard of here prior to his joining IGCIC. Conferred with Padamshree and highest Indian honour in performing arts, his new initiatives of propagating Indian culture abroad will go a long way in strengthening bilateral relations between two brotherly nations. Culture has always been one of the most effective medium of bringing nations together. This is not the first occasion when Balwant Thakur’s magic has attracted appreciation and acknowledgement in a foreign land. Many Mauritian organisations and institutions have recognised his most outstanding work and have expressed hope that he is set to create new cultural landmark for India in Mauritius.
