JAMMU: The J&K branch of Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) today distributed warm clothes to several underprivileged families in its Panjgrain Ashram, Nagrota, near here in light of the prevailing biting cold.
Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta was the Chief Guest while CSS Regional Passport Officer J&K, Nishith Kumar Shil and Station Director, Jammu Tawi Railway Station, Mahesh Yadav were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.
Earlier, all the dignitaries in presence of Swami Satyamitrananda Secretary of Jammu Branch and other members of BSS performed Pujan in the temple of Bharat.
The clothes were distributed to the needy persons by Swami Satyamitrananda in presence of the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour and other prominent persons of the area.
Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta said that the initiative for providing warm clothing to poor and needy sections of the society during extreme cold weather and other activities of BSS highlight and reinvigorate the ethical traditions and serve as a guiding force for the betterment of humanity.
He appealed to the Sangha to continue its humanitarian services for the disadvantaged sections of the society.
“Society must come forward to help the poor and the needy. Facing winter for the poor becomes very tough since they can’t afford warm clothes. If all of us decide to donate our unused winter clothes, a lot can be done to alleviate their suffering,” the Mayor said.
He appealed to more people to come forward and generously work for the poor people.
Appreciating the Sangha’s commitment towards the service of humanity, Nishith Kumar Shil congratulated the BSS on the occasion. He observed that more such selfless organizations like the BSS would make a valuable contribution towards the upliftment of the downtrodden and needy segments of the society.
Mahesh Yadav also spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts of BSS for their social welfare programmes.
Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj also highlighted activities of the organization in his address.
He said following the ideology of its great founder Swami Pramanandaji Maharaj, BSS have been carrying out various campaigns at their level to distribute warm clothes among the needy people every year.
