The basic needs viz Having security ,Avoiding uncertainties And living a comfortable life are at
the root of most humans preferring govt jobs to private jobs .
Now govt jobs also have better salary structures as compared to most of private jobs.
In India people are always concerned for security and money. And they try to secure their lives.
Securing themselves from all possible uncertainties is one of the basic needs of humans. They
search for security in all situations and try to avoid uncertainties in life.
REASONS WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE GOVT JOBS ARE:-
People are of the view that in government jobs salary will increase which will have no
correlation with the performance. While it is great if a person is hard-working, increments
happen whether you perform or not. So, for over-achievers, it may be actually a dis-advantage,
but if you are an average performer, this is great.
There are more Government holidays in Government jobs compared to private sector. In
addition we also have a 5 day work week. To add to all this, there are also certain amount of
paid holidays in a year.
Government sector jobs are not at all stressful when compared to the jobs in private sector.
The work load in governments jobs even if high would have more than enough time frame to
complete it in the best possible manner unlike that of private sector jobs.
Another basic need of humans is to have as much comfort as possible . Also, as long as they are
not pushed to their limits they do not want to move out of their comfort zones.
Next reason for people’s love for govt jobs is the status attached with them. In most of societies
govt job employees are preferred for fixing marriages.
Some govt jobs also offer pension at the end of service which adds to further charm of govt
jobs.
Another hidden factor for attraction of govt jobs is all social security benefits offered by govt
jobs like EPF,Super Annuation,Earned Leaves,Medical/ESI etc are guaranteed in govt jobs , but
the same is not in the case with most of private organizations.
Also gov jobs have fixed working hours – So we don’t have to stay back at office beyond 8 hours.
Government jobs are more relaxed and provide security unlike private jobs with a lot of
performance pressure and fewer benefits.
According to some people govt jobs provide recognition, Power, authority, social status and
passion for serving the nation. whereas Pvt jobs provide money, money and money.
Well one cannot deny that a government job does come with a lot of perks that private
companies don’t offer. And for people who would like to have personal life, there is no reason
why government job shouldn’t be their priority.
In India, People always needs to take care about the family(but not in case for many countries)
so they need one Permanent job for future plans.
You get a permanent job and can’t be removed for the whims and fancies of their superior. At
the most one can be transferred to some irrelevant posts, and that’s it.
It is a fact that we Indians are obsessed with government jobs. This obsession could be easily
seen when lacs of aspirants appear against very limited number of seats in government jobs
entrance exams.
As per a recent report, over 93,000 candidates including 3,700 Phd holders have applied for
the peon jobs in U.P that had an eligibility of Class V. This clearly indicates how desperate the
Indians are for government jobs. Now a days students change their streams, they move from
one stream to another just to get govt jobs as it give job security – No one is going to kick you
out from there. A large number of educational institutions are opened which provide coaching
to crack govt exams. Every year lakhs of students take admissions in these institutions to get
the required jobs.
A few years back, IT, MNC, Corporate, Automobiles etc. were not the terms used by the people.
The matrimonial advertisements attracted the brides father which read “ Govt Service. Class I
Officer. Four Figure Salary “ or something sort of that.
There were hardly any industries. The major industry was the Textile Mills which employed the
uneducated and laymen.
Most of the jobs were available with the government. All of the services were being provided by
the government and the jobs were given in Railways, Posts & Telegraph Department, Hospitals,
Sanitation, State and Reserve Banks, Courts, Police etc
Initially there were only govt jobs in the market. Only a few companies used to exist. Most of the
private companies were forcing people to work more. However govt jobs were easy jobs, they
used to get good salary, good benefits, good extra income( thru corruption). So our parents’
generation used to love it and was thier dream to get a govt job.
But Things have changed now. Private companies are paying alot. They don’t force you to work
day and night. It provides good chance of promotion etc.
But how our parents’ generation will know this?
Although things have changed but the mindset of people is still the same..
Its our duty to explain them that
Jobs in government and private sectors come with their advantages
and disadvantages. Job
seekers must choose them based on their risk-appetite.
