Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], November 10: Home Minister Amit Shah Commemorates 62nd Raising Day of ITBP, Acknowledges its Evolution into a Formidable Security Force
Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on its 62nd raising day in Dehradun, highlighting the force’s pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s security. Shah commended the remarkable journey of the ITBP, which, starting with 7 divisions, has now evolved into a robust force with 60 divisions, 17 training centers, 5 frontiers, and 2 commando headquarters, boasting a personnel strength of 1 lakh.
During the ceremony, Shah addressed the sacrifice and dedication of ITBP personnel, emphasizing their commitment to prioritize the country over personal considerations, even when their families need them. He underscored the importance of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) receiving aviation and rail quotas, aligning them with the benefits accorded to the army.
Shah also unveiled the “Self-Sustainable Energy Building,” an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Ministry. Situated at an altitude of 17,000 feet, the building symbolizes ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and provides a safe environment for soldiers stationed in extreme conditions. Shah applauded the swift completion of the project within two months.
Discussing technological advancements, Shah revealed the successful delivery of life-saving items via drones to remote areas, a significant initiative to aid villages located at high altitudes. He applauded the proactive measures taken by the government to address challenges faced by the soldiers.
In response to the Home Ministry’s request, Prime Minister Modi approved the formation of seven ITBP battalions, a historic decision aimed at reducing the burden on existing forces. Shah announced the construction of a 1 Sector Headquarters at a cost of Rs 3000 crore, emphasizing the strategic importance of the move.
Shah also highlighted the ‘Vibrant Village Project,’ a novel concept to ensure every facility is provided to villages in high altitudes and remote areas. Underlining the project’s significance, he disclosed a budget allocation of Rs 4800 crore for 19 districts, comprising 46 blocks and 62 villages, with a population of 10 lakh.
Touching upon national security, Shah pointed out a decline in terrorism indicators in Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. He emphasized the positive impact, citing a 65 percent reduction in incidents in the Northeast and an 80 percent decline in militant activities.
The ceremony concluded with Shah expressing gratitude for the unwavering dedication and resilience displayed by ITBP personnel in safeguarding the nation’s borders.
