Narottam Sharma, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Councillor from Ward No. 3, Mast Garh of Jammu old city area met Lieutenant Governor(LG) of J&K UT, Girish Chandra Murmu apprising him of various issues concerning the general masses at JMC Town Hall, Jammu.
Narottam Sharma, apprised the LG about the faulty drinking water supply and said that water being supplied is not fit for human consumption and is giving foul smell. He alleged that it is the criminal negligence on the part of PHE in the old city area, that after 72 years of independence we have failed to provide clear drinking water to our citizens and are forcing them to drink water which is not fit for the consumption of animals.
Sharma, pointed out the issue of lack of parking space, as a result of which, the people of old city have no option, but to park their vehicles on road, in consequence of which the city roads often remain jammed, the traffic has to move on snail’s pace and accidents take place. He told that Mahant Ravi Nath ji of Peer Kho agreed to provide ten kanals of land for the construction of parking. A MOU was also signed between Mahantji and outgoing commissioner JMC, but the file is pending for decision before commissioner Secretary since last more than 8 months, despite repeated requests. He requested that the Commissioner Secretary may be directed to give approval for construction of parking at Peer Kho and expedite its construction.
Sharma also pin pointed about the chunk of forest land grabbed by land mafia, opposite Aap Shambhu Mandir Peer Khoh and behind DC office which can also be developed into parking place and thereby creating good parking spaces to relieve the roads of parked vehicles in specific from circular road and adjoining areas to ensure smooth and uninterrupted and hazel free vehicular moment. He said that the land may be taken away from the land grabbers and the concerned may be directed to develop it as a parking or for other public utility works.
Sharma, appreciated transparency in allocation of works through e-tender System but said that it takes too much of time, approximate three to six months for allocation of work ,which is too long a period for execution of small repairing works, continuously creating undesirable and unjustified inconvenience for the public. He demanded a minimum amount of Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakh at the disposal of the Councillor out of CCDP for execution of emergency repairing.
Sharma, said that as the Gandola project lies in the Ward no. 3, it has created job opportunities for scores of youth, but local youth have been ignored by the agency, which is very undesirable and unjustified and as such it is requested that concerned agency may kindly be directed to reserve at least 20% posts for the eligible educated youth.
LG Murmu, listened very carefully to the demands put forth by the worthy Councillor Narottam Sharma and admitted that all the points are just and need to be addressed. He assured that he will direct the appropriate authorities to look into the matter as early as possible. He further appreciated the effort of Sharma and said that together we all have the moral responsibility and the basic duty to develop and maintain our Ward, our city and contribute in resolving every issue amicably.
